Review of Highlands Ranch, Colorado

Racism does exists
Star Rating - 3/9/2011
Racism does exists here. If you are a minority and don't see it, you must be blind. People move here to get away from diversity. They don't want to see a neighbor who does not look like them. (blonde. blue eyes) you get the picture. In fact, I think that Highlands Ranch and the surrounding Littleton is very racist. If you are thinking about moving to colorado, look at denver. Much more diverse and people can appreciate others.

Not everyone is blonde and blue eyed though as I have seen my fair share of brown eyed brunette caucasian..(in America not sure if that is called white).. To the OP's comment about people moving here to get away from diversity, a colleague of mine who leads a billion dollar corporation jokingly commented that it's the "white flight" community, when he found out I moved to this area, didn't get the joke until recently when my family and I went to an outdoor activity and I lost my wife briefly in the sea of blondes. My family and I moved here (wife's blonde and very fair with blue/green eyes) myself part British and Caribbean (caucasian-Indian mix) and unless I open my mouth and speak and some folks hear the brit accent; I can see where the OP can perceive racism, having lived in the south I just anticipate the ignorance... Personally I don't get the racism nonsense considering the history of land acquisition and white migrants to this area..most of the original settlers left their country with nothing looking for opportunity right? forget the genocide and theft ;) all because Cris Columbus couldn't read a map to India and got lost. My two cents is ignore the racists, they all live in a bubble of self importance and an execrable internal hatred which is projected out. In the HR community I believe its more about the self importance rather than racism..which is laughable if you've lived in London, Paris, NYC or LA. If you are a perceived minority I am certain living in this area, think about the value you bring to those who love you and work with you.. any such individual/s will augment the area by bringing an educated outlook(myself Ivy) and earn a comfortable income to afford the housing. However there is a limit to this puerile absurdity called racism..if you are looking for the laid back and welcoming aspect that is promoted as CO living try Boulder..
